Day 13 – Saturday July 4, 2009: Independence Day in Taipei

Woke up and had a 7-11 breakfast.  Went to EVA Air to get a refund for Geoff and Danika.  Headed to the electronic mall and farmers market for honey and wine grapes.  Then off to the National Palace Museums - it was quite a bit smaller than we though it would be.  There was a nice garden in the front and we watched some children feed the coy fish.  Then we had more McDonalds and took the MRT to Danshui.  There was some sort of festival going on there with lots of big pumpkins.  I bought some neat souvey’s that I cannot disclose on this blog (be excited Kier!).  CKE bought a 8-inch tall ice cream cone.  We walked along the boardwalk and ended with some beers at a small restaurant with a view of the sunset.  Was very relaxing.  Then back to the MRT for the Sallin (something like this) Night Market – had our first encounter with Stinky Tofu….I would rather eat dog poo that put something that smells like that in my mouth.  I have never EVER seen so many people in my life; this is where all the people go at night.  We headed back to the Hotel.

No fireworks, but a nice 4th of July.
